Iranian Economy Favorable for Foreign Investment

TEHRAN, August 16 (Mehr News Agency) -- Increasing investment and raising the country's economic level are among Iran's macro-economic policies in the Third Five-Year Economic Development Plan (March 2000-March 2005).

With these goals in mind, a two-day international conference entitled Foreign Investment Opportunities in Tabriz was held in West Azarbaijan Province.

Some 200 foreign investors along with 500 Iranian entrepreneurs took part in the conference in order to familiarize themselves with Iran's economic plans.

Despite the U.S. plots and economic sabotage, the Islamic Republic has had significant success in the economic and political arenas.

There was a ten-fold rise in foreign investment in the country this year compared to the figure ten years ago.

The International Monetary Found (IMF) said in July that during the past three years Iran has achieved the highest development rate in the Middle East and North Africa region by trading increasingly with international markets and attracting international investors.

Experts believe that conditions in Iran are favorable for increased investment and economic development.

Iran's economy has received a boost through the implementation of the law protecting investments, the reform of the tax law, and the signing of investment agreements with over 40 countries. This has encouraged foreign investors to participate in the country's national development.

Economists believe that the situation is favorable for investment in the Islamic Republic. Many European states are investing in Iran. For example, the South Pars gas field attracted more than $20 billion in foreign investment.

Investment has risen 20 to 30 percent since the year 2000.

The fact that the risk of investment in Iran was lowered from six points to four points over the past three years is one of the reasons for the rise. The figure is expected to drop to three in the near future.

The Tabriz international conference was a good opportunity to present Iran's investment plans and attract investment.
